'Jackass' set to end with new film, Johnny Knoxville reveals

One of Hollywood's most chaotic film franchises is coming to an end.

Johnny Knoxville told Rolling Stone in an interview published Feb. 24 that the upcoming fifth "Jackass" movie will be the series' final installment.

"This will be the last one," he revealed. "This is the natural place to end."

The long-running franchise, which centers on Knoxville and his fellow cast members' outrageous stunts and pranks, started on MTV in 2000 and has included four mainline features. Most recently, the film series returned in 2022 after a more than 10-year hiatus with "Jackass Forever," which brought back longtime stars Knoxville, Steve-O and others alongside some new performers.

"Jackass" has also spawned the spin-off movie "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa," as well as several compilations of footage not used in the feature films.

It wasn't known that any more "Jackass" was on the way going into 2026, but in January, Knoxville made the surprise announcement that a new film was set for release on June 26. He wrote on Instagram at the time, "More to come but wanted you to hear it from us first!"

In Knoxville's new interview, the Rolling Stone journalist sounded skeptical that the fifth "Jackass" would truly be the end. Knoxville acknowledged he previously thought the series would not continue after the first film, but he noted that "we never said never" after that – at least, until now.

"It's going to be absolutely awful," Knoxville said, seeming to suggest it will be difficult to say goodbye. He also noted he has "been thinking about" what he'll "do with my ideas" once "Jackass" is over.

Some fans were under the impression that "Jackass Forever" would be the last installment, but Knoxville was not so definitive at the time. "Someone wrote it was the last one, but we never said it was the last one," he previously told Variety, adding, "We're never saying never."

Knoxville teased on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last month that "everybody" is coming back for the new "Jackass" movie, which he said would start shooting in February.

Knoxville has previously acknowledged he will have to pull back on stunts that could result in a head injury after he suffered brain damage during a shocking "Jackass Forever" stunt where he was flipped in the air by a bull.

In his Rolling Stone interview, Knoxville reflected on how his brain injury led to "catastrophic thinking" and the feeling that the "whole world was closing in."

"Your brain's feeding you such terrible information," he said. "People outside were telling me, 'Your brain's playing tricks on you.' I'm like, 'No, no, it's happening.' Nothing's happening."

"Over five or six months, my mind just fell off a cliff," he continued. "But then I got on medicine, and it started turning around and I started feeling like myself again."
