- Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton shares 3 script pages annotated by himself, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and department heads.

- The script pages reveal the opening sequence, as well as a few key details about where the story picks up.

- Cretton teases Peter Parker's new suit, inspired by his encounter with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men.

As the title suggests, it's a *Brand New Day* for *Spider-Man*.

Tom Holland's web-slinging Peter Parker returns in this summer's event movie, only this time, no one in the world has any memory of who he is, a nasty side effect courtesy of the multiverse tampering of the last installment, *Spider-Man: No Way Home* (2021). So where does the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler go from here?

Director Destin Daniel Cretton (*Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings*) answers that — and then some. Ahead of the big theatrical release in July, the filmmaker exclusively shares three script pages from *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, including the opening scenes, along with annotations from himself, Holland, Zendaya (MJ), Brett Pawlak (director of photography), and other department heads.

Here are six things we learned about the movie.

Marvel Studios logo.

Longtime watchers (and *the* Watcher) are familiar with the opening logo from any MCU entry: footage from famous moments across the films playing within the Marvel Studios insignia.

That footage for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, according to a script annotation from Cretton, will now include footage of “the memories Peter no longer shares with Ned [Jacob Batalon] and MJ and Aunt May [Marisa Tomei]."

The opening scene

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Trailer

Tom Holland's Peter Parker handles the note he wrote MJ in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'.

The opening scene of *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* involves Peter completely alone for the first time. In his possession is the letter he wrote for MJ at the end of *No Way Home*, the one that explains what happened with Doctor Strange’s spell and why no one, including her, knows who he is.

We’re nine months after the events of the ending shot from *No Way Home* with Peter in his new apartment. He developed some unhealthy living patterns, and it’s taking a physical toll on him. What’s described in the script as “a small, sharp headache” is "our first inkling that living completely in the shadows is taking its toll on Peter — something is changing, and maybe not for the better…"

Peter no longer has access to Tony Stark’s money or gadgets. “All of his tech needs to have been made by Peter,” Cretton writes in the annotations.

Enter E.V., Peter’s AI assistant who operates similarly to Stark’s J.A.R.V.I.S. or F.R.I.D.A.Y. She is, “sadly, the closest thing Peter has to a friend,” the filmmaker notes.

Is there a 'Daredevil: Born Again' spoiler in the 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' trailer?

He also has a homemade fabricator, which is essentially a "3D printer on steroids — something that could be made by a kid genius w/ limited funds."

Keeping an eye on MJ and Ned

Inside Peter’s room are Ned’s LEGO Emperor figurine and the coffee cup MJ gave him once upon a time, now relics from their time together.

He also set up alerts on his phone, one that tells him “flowers for May” (to deliver later to her gravesite) and another that notifies him of a social media post from his former best friend about getting accepted to MIT’s engineering program.

“Peter smiles for them, even if he’s miserable without them,” the stage directions read.

As Peter’s voiceover continues reading the letter, we cut to a familiar scene from the trailer: Spider-Man sitting upside down on a steel beam over New York City. The police scanner on his phone notifies him that a SWAT team is en route in 15 minutes to handle a situation.

“He pulls his mask down, letting himself fall off the edge…He webs and swings away as music starts to play and we…BEGIN MONTAGE,” the script reads.

New Spidey suit!

And, yes, Peter has a new Spider-Man suit. Again, he doesn’t have access to his typical resources. He goes back to his roots and makes a new one himself, one inspired by his encounter with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man variants from *No Way Home*. "Real fabric, seams, wrinkles," Cretton writes.
