Taylor Momsen Remembers Michelle Trachtenberg on Her 1st Death Anniversary, Shares Heartfelt Tribute

Gossip Girl alum Taylor Momsen is remembering her late costar Michelle Trachtenberg on the one-year anniversary of her untimely death.

The lead singer of The Pretty Reckless found herself struck with "overwhelming sadness" over the loss of her old friend, not even realizing until the next morning that her internal clock knew exactly how long its been since the Ice Princess star died at 39.

"It’s weird how the body clock remembers," Momsen wrote on Instagram, alongside several photos of Trachtenberg throughout her career. "Last night I was sitting in my hotel room alone in São Paulo, I didn’t know what the date was (they all blend together on tour) and I was hit with an overwhelming sadness over Michelle…" she explained. "then I wake up and realize it’s been a year without her. Life is hard. I wish…I miss…I wish…"

Trachtenberg was found dead in her apartment the morning of Feb. 26, 2025, with suspicions originally linking her untimely death to a recent liver transplant while an investigation into her cause of death was launched.

Ultimately, the medical examiner confirmed her cause of death was due to complications of diabetes mellitus.

Her 'Heartbreaking' Death Sparked a Wave of Tributes

Her friends and colleagues were just as stunned by the news as her fans were, with reports suggesting that she was trying to make plans with her circle just days before she died.

Her childhood costar from Harriet the Spy, Rosie O’Donnell, called her death “heartbreaking,” noting, “I loved her very much.”

Fellow Gossip Girl costar Ed Westwick shared a photo of the actress on social media with the message, “SO SAD TO HEAR OF THE PASSING OF @MICHELLETRACHTENBERG. SENDING PRAYERS🙏🏻🤍.”

Her A Holiday for Love costar and neighbor Melissa Gilbert wrote at the time, “Oh Michy…and we lived so close to one another…..my heart aches for your family and all those who loved you so...”
