After two days in Washington, D.C., which included an address to a joint session of Congress and a state dinner at the White House, King Charles and Queen Camilla made their way north to New York City today, on the second leg of their State Visit to the U.S.
King Charles has visited New York City several times before. As Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, Charles and Camilla traveled to the city together for official visits in 2005 and 2007.
Charles acknowledged today’s visit in his address to Congress on Tuesday. “This year, of course, also marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11. This atrocity was a defining moment for America and your pain and shock were felt around the whole world,” King Charles said during his speech. “In the immediate aftermath of 9/11, when NATO invoked Article 5 for the first time, and the United Nations Security Council was united in the face of terror, we answered the call together—as our people have done so for more than a century, shoulder to shoulder, through two World Wars, the Cold War, Afghanistan and moments that have defined our shared security.”

After New York, the King and Queen will turn south again, where the U.S. portion of their transatlantic trip will conclude in Virginia, and they will attend several events celebrating America’s 250th birthday. King Charles will then depart for Bermuda, where he also serves as head of state.
