Michael Jackson spent his final days at a Los Angeles mansion.
In December 2008, the King of Pop moved into a sprawling French château–style mansion in Holmby Hills. Jackson leased the seven-bedroom, 13-bathroom estate from clothing executive Hubert Guez and his wife, Roxanne, reportedly paying $100,000 a month, per the New York Post.
The lavish property — which features a movie theater, wine cellar, gym and expansive gardens — served as a private retreat as Jackson prepared for his This Is It comeback tour in London.
However, on June 25, 2009, the iconic singer went into cardiac arrest at the home and was later pronounced dead at the age of 50.
Here's everything to know about Michael Jackson's final home and what happened to the Los Angeles mansion.

Jackson moved into 100 North Carolwood Drive — a gated, French château–style estate in Holmby Hills — in December 2008. The sprawling mansion, owned at the time by the Guez family, sat behind high hedges and security gates, offering the kind of seclusion the singer sought in the final months of his life.
Holmby Hills is home to landmark properties like the Playboy Mansion and Spelling Manor, and its storied streets — including Carolwood Drive, South Mapleton Drive and Club View Drive — have long attracted A-list residents, from Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley to Kylie Jenner.
The "Thriller" singer lived at the mansion with his three children — Prince, Paris and Bigi — until his death in June 2009.

Renowned architect Richard Landry — often dubbed the “king of the megamansion” — designed the Holmby Hills estate at 100 North Carolwood Drive that was completed in 2002 by developer Mohamed Hadid, the father of models Gigi Hadid and Bella Hadid. The French château–style residence was later rented by Jackson for about $100,000 a month.
Spanning more than 17,000 square feet on roughly 1.25 acres, the home includes seven bedrooms and 13 bathrooms, per the listing. Inside, it includes a ballroom-style great room and formal living and dining areas, plus soaring ceilings accented by marble finishes, carved woodwork and 12 fireplaces. Amenities include a private movie theater, wine cellar and tasting room, gym, spa and an elevator connecting multiple levels.

The grounds are equally tailored for privacy and entertaining, with a gated motor court, manicured gardens, a large swimming pool and dense landscaping that shields the estate from view. A detached guesthouse adds additional living space, reinforcing the property’s design as a fully self-contained, ultra-private compound.

Jackson died on June 25, 2009, at the age of 50 after going into cardiac arrest at his rented home in Holmby Hills. He was transported to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead later that day.
His official cause of death was acute Propofol intoxication — meaning he had a fatal level of the powerful anesthetic Propofol, along with other sedatives, in his system. The death was ruled a homicide by the Los Angeles County Coroner.
Jackson had been using Propofol to help him sleep in the weeks leading up to his planned This Is It comeback concerts. His personal physician, Conrad Murray, administered the drug at his home. Murray later admitted to giving Jackson Propofol but said he was trying to treat his insomnia.
In November 2011, Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for his role in Jackson’s death and was sentenced to four years in prison. He served about two years before being released.
A month after the trial ended, Julien’s Auctions sold more than 500 items from the Holmby Hills estate, ultimately bringing in close to $1 million. Among the most talked-about pieces were personal items tied to Jackson’s final days: a mirror featuring a handwritten message to himself sold for $25,750, while a kitchen chalkboard with a note from his children reading “I love Daddy” fetched $5,000, per ABC11.
The auction house recreated rooms from the Carolwood residence ahead of the sale, drawing fans who treated the space like a memorial, leaving flowers and notes.

The Guez family spent years trying to sell the 100 North Carolwood Drive estate after Jackson’s death, ultimately closing a deal in 2012 for $18.1 million after initially listing it for $23.9 million.
Investment banker Steven Mayer purchased the property, with The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Mauricio Umansky representing both the buyer and seller in the transaction, per TMZ.
