Matt Damon and Ben Affleck paid a wholesome tribute to Robin Williams at a recent awards ceremony. They donned San Francisco Giants hats, all in the name of Robin Williams. The actor duo received the Robin Williams Legacy of Laughter Award on behalf of their late co-star. They dedicated the win to Williams and also thanked him for being a crucial part of their lives and careers in Hollywood.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck graced the stage at the awards with the Giants hats in hand. Notably, Robin Williams was a devoted fan of the team. Damon jokingly remarked as they put on the caps, “We should get this over with. That’s the first time in 55 years, and that’s for Robin” (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Notably, Williams starred as Sean Maguire in 1997’s Good Will Hunting. The film marked a turning point in Damon and Affleck’s lives and careers and even earned them an Oscar win. Additionally, Williams won the award for Best Supporting Actor.

The Martian star explained how Affleck and he struggled to make Good Will Hunting together in their 20s. He emphasized that the moment “Robin read it and decided to do it, all of our problems went away.” Damon explained, “The studio had all these notes; it was this whole thing, and once Robin was like, ‘No, I like the script just as it is,’ they were like, ‘We think it’s great too!’ And that was it, and we just went and made the movie.”

The Gone Girl star took over the mantle from Damon and continued with his speech. Affleck explained that the award was just “just our way of saying thank you to Robin, who is the person that made the most meaningful impact on our professional lives. And, without whom so many of the dreams we had may not have come true, certainly not in the way that they did.”
