Kylie Morgan is engaged — and she tells PEOPLE it was the "easiest yes" she's ever said.

The "I'm on the Run" singer's boyfriend, radio personality and artist manager Alek Halverson, popped the question on April 21 during an emotional surprise proposal in Nashville. He had an adorable assist from his 2-year-old daughter, Ava.

"Alek planned the most thoughtful surprise. He set up a 'fake' content day at Createurs Nashville so I would be camera-ready without suspecting a thing," Morgan recalls. "While a photographer and videographer pretended to capture the shoot, Alek secretly had his parents bring Ava, who was such a special part of the moment."

A video of the proposal shows Morgan, 30, standing on a set, seemingly doing an interview for her new album, Healed Cowgirl Pt. 1. She suddenly heard a "baby sound" that she says sounded like her "bonus daughter," Ava.

When Morgan caught on to what was happening, she immediately grew tearful. Ava then came toddling toward her — wearing a white and denim ruffled dress and a tiny pair of white heeled cowboy boots — with Halverson, 31, following behind.

Halverson nudged his daughter, who then presented Morgan with a ring box while the musician covered her face with her hands in shock. The groom-to-be got down on one knee and proposed.

"In that moment, everything changed," Morgan recalls. "Alek took my hand, with Ava right there beside them, and asked me to marry not only him but Ava, too. It was the easiest yes I've ever said."

Morgan says that while she and Halverson had talked about getting engaged, the proposal still took her by surprise. "The second I saw Ava come around the corner holding the ring box, I completely lost it — in the best way. It was the most overwhelming, intimate and beautiful surprise," she tells PEOPLE.

Halverson chose a custom-made engagement ring by Ayka Jewelers, featuring a 4.5-carat, radiant-cut diamond. "My literal dream ring," Morgan gushes.

The musician and her now-fiancé met in Seattle in 2019 during her very first radio tour, when she was opening for Kip Moore. "We went axe throwing, which, looking back, feels so perfectly us," Halverson says.

The pair didn't start dating until a little over a year ago, after reconnecting at another show — and "this time, everything was different," Morgan says.

"We were both going through one of the hardest seasons of our lives, coming out of relationships that just weren’t right. In a lot of ways, we found each other exactly when we needed to," explains the singer, who split from ex-husband Jay Allen in October 2024 after two years of marriage.

"What started as two people leaning on each other turned into something so much deeper," Morgan continued of her blossoming relationship with Halverson. "We helped each other heal in ways we didn’t even know we needed, reshaping everything we thought we understood about love. From there, everything just fell into place so naturally — it felt like it was always meant to be."

Now that they are engaged, Morgan and Halverson are looking forward to planning their wedding — and the "Country Girl" singer already has some ideas in mind.

"We’re hoping to keep it under 100 people — something intimate and meaningful, but still a big celebration," she says. "Our dream location is Key West. But still up in the air! It’s one of our favorite places, and it just feels like the perfect setting for us."

Morgan adds, "We both love to have fun — we’re usually the life of the party — so I can only imagine our wedding will be an unforgettable celebration and the perfect way to begin our forever."

Even though the pair will soon have husband and wife titles, the singer says "not much will change" when they are married — and that's just the way she likes it.

"We’ve already built such a beautiful life together. We’ve been living together for a while and raising Ava as a team, so not much will change day-to-day," she explains. "But it feels incredibly special to finally feel like I have a teammate for life — someone who genuinely supports me and my dreams. It’s something I thought wasn't ever going to be possible for me."

And becoming Ava's stepmom, she says, "means everything" to her.

Morgan's new album dropped on April 10. In a candid Instagram post that day, she shared, "I’ve never been more proud of a body of work in my life."

Her post included a shout-out to Halverson, whom she described as "the person who completely rewired my heart and helped me unlearn everything I thought I knew about love."

"Thank you for protecting me, for being patient while I healed, walking through every fire with me, and for being my best friend," she wrote to her future husband. "I love you and our little family more than I could've imagined."
