The Beach Boys have welcomed a surprising new touring member—and the path that led him there sounds almost too perfect to be real.

Musician Chris Cron, known online for his intricate vocal harmony breakdown videos of all your favorite songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s, announced Friday, March 6, that he has officially joined the legendary band’s touring lineup.

Cron shared the news in a video posted to social media.

ā€œI’m Chris Cron, and I am the newest touring member of the Beach Boys,ā€ he said in the clip. ā€œYeah, I don’t even believe it, saying it right now.ā€

For Cron, the moment feels surreal—especially considering how it all started.

According to the singer, he began posting Beach Boys–inspired content online simply because he loved the music.

ā€œI had no idea when I started posting Beach Boys–centered content a few years ago,ā€ Cron said. ā€œIt was just for fun. It was just because I liked it… and you seemed to like it, and so I just kept doing it. And it has led to this.ā€

Cron’s videos often feature him building the band’s famously complex harmonies one vocal part at a time, layering multiple tracks until the full sound comes together, earning him a following among musicians and Beach Boys fans alike.

The opportunity eventually led to a life-changing invitation when he was asked to perform with them back in October 2025. And now he's an official member.

Cron thanked Mike Love and Jackie Love for welcoming him into the band, along with actor and longtime Beach Boys collaborator John Stamos and musician Brian Eichenberger, who helped champion him for the role.

He also shared a heartfelt message for the man he is effectively replacing in the touring lineup.

ā€œI want to say a really, really big thank you to Bruce Johnston, who has been so kind and so nice to me and encouraging to me,ā€ Cron said. ā€œNot just to me, but to my family as well.ā€

Johnston recently announced he is stepping away from the band’s touring schedule after 61 years of performing, marking the end of an era for the group.

Cron also thanked his wife, Libby, for supporting his musical journey.

ā€œThank you so much for being willing to walk this weird path with me and loving me so much and so well,ā€ he said.

Cron previously performed with the tribute group Pet Sounds Live, where he became known for faithfully recreating the intricate harmonies that helped define the Beach Boys’ ā€œCalifornia sound.ā€

Now, he’s taking that passion directly to the stage with the band itself.

ā€œI can’t wait to see you all out on the road,ā€ Cron said. ā€œI hope you have a wonderful, amazing weekend.ā€

Formed in 1961 in Hawthorne, California, the Beach Boys became one of the most influential pop groups in music history, known for lush vocal arrangements and classic hits like "Good Vibrations," "California Girls," and "Wouldn’t It Be Nice."

For Cron, the journey from posting harmony videos online to touring with the band that inspired them still feels hard to believe.

ā€œWhat a wild ride,ā€ he wrote alongside his announcement.
